Another TBR for a readathon! Sob-A-Thon runs from Monday, May 21 to Sunday, May 27 with the expressed purpose of reading those books that will make you cry. Coming up with this TBR was fun and hopefully will be successful in bringing those tears.
Challenge 1: Read a book you've been putting off because you know it will make you too emotional.
I chose The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas for this challenge. I requested the ebook forever ago and though I got the book, I just haven't read it. Not only do I know that I'll cry, but I am also afraid that it will not meet my expectations as the amazing book I am expecting. Seriously though, I know that this will be an emotional read and therefore perfect for this readathon.
Challenge 2: Read a book that will make you cry from happiness.
I feel like Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton has the best chance as making me cry as anything else. I cry often enough that it is hard to remember, but I think that I ended up crying during the first book of the series, Rebel of the Sands. This is an amazing series. I devoured the first book in a night because it was so good. If you are looking for a book rec on this list, I cannot not recommend this series enough. Not only is the world building really cool, but the character interactions were awesome in book one. I am really excited about this book.
Challenge 3: Reread a book that destroyed your emotions.
Chris Crutcher's books always hit me hard. While Whale Talk is probably my favorite, I went with Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes. I actually cried the first time I read it and another time I reread it. Eric is such a dimensional character and his relationship with his best friend hits me really hard. After the week I've had, I have no doubt that I will cry, at least a little.
Challenge 4: Read a book under 300 pages.
Technically, I read Thirteen Reasons Why back in middle school. However, my mindset was different back then so I want to reread it with four more years of life and in a better state of mind. It clocks in at 288 pages, so I'll have to wait and see the difference of opinion on this book between eighth grade me and senior me.
Challenge 5: Read the group book.
The group book this time is The Astonishing Color of After. With everything that has happened over the last month with my mom, I feel like this book has the ability to bring the tears.
So let's go! I have been on the verge of tears all day as my last day as a senior, so I am sure that all of these books will make me cry. I plan on keeping a cry-counter this week of how many times I actually do cry while reading.
Are you participating with me in Sob-a-thon? What books will make you tear up this week or have successfully in in the past?
