Grinchathon

I know that I have not been keeping up with this blog, but my first semester of college was crazy. I honestly was surprised at what I was able to get done relating to reading and writing, particularly when concerning Nanowrimo. Anyway, now that I'm back home for winter break, I'm trying to catch up on this blog to post once a week, or hopefully at least once every other week once the spring semester starts.
This is my TBR for the Grinchathon readathon over on twitter at @Grinchathon ran by @punkrockgirlpa. I'm sure that I'll be posting some more readathon tbr's over the next few weeks because I am trying to read as much as possible before I have to go back to school.

Grinchathon is relating to being a Grinch around the holiday season, and while I don't think this defines me, I really feel like I missed out on most of my holiday traditions since I was off at school. There are seven challenges for the weeklong readathon so in a week hopefully I'll be posting that I've finished all of them at the conclusion of the readathon event.

The first challenge is "cheap" and for this challenge, I chose to read All Fall Down by Ally Carter, the first book in the Embassy Row series. While I have not read any other books by Ally Carter, I really enjoyed the Gallagher Girl series, both when I read it in late elementary school and when I just reread the series over the past few weeks. I bought this book at a used bookstore, so it definitely was cheap in price and thus fulfills the prompt.

For the "black and green" challenge, I chose to read Ex-Mas by Kate Brian. I found this book at the local library (which I went to the day that I went home) and the cover is almost completely green. Green is the color of the Grinch after all.  I'm excited for this book because hopefully it's a cute little YA romance story, which definitely something that I want. Like I said, I would not classify myself as a Grinch so that is why I am interested in a book like this and hope that it is good.

For the next prompt, "easy", I chose to read Aces Up by Lauren Barnholdt. This is another YA romance novel, this one I own. The last Barnholdt book I read was pretty good, but I do hope that this one is better because the last one had some biphobic comments made by the MC that were never corrected. Other than that, I enjoyed the book and hope that this book avoids those ideas. Other than that, I really enjoy YA romance and can also read and finish them quickly so I do hope that I can get through this in a hurry to be able to get all of this stuff done.

The next challenge was "dark" and I am choosing to read A Lie for A Lie by Robin Merrow MacCready. I have no idea if this novel will end up being that dark, but it is a mystery and I hope that it will end up being on the darker side. While I do enjoy lighter reads, I really hope that this book in particular is a little deeper and a darker read. I think that I bought this book during the summer at the book warehouse, but I am not quite sure about the details.

My "diverse" book to fill that prompt is Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. This is a reread for me because I bought this book a while ago and read it and really enjoyed it, but I do not feel like I remember the details well enough to read and fully understand the next two books in the trilogy. It was a great read the first time around, and I hope to enjoy it just as much on the reread, and also to hopefully get some more value out of the book to love the read even more.

For the "warm" book, I plan to read Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George. I have also read this book before, but it's so sweet and really good that I want to read all three of the related books while I am home for break, as the library has all of them and I have already checked all three of them out. These books are so sweet and warm my heart. I read them the first time when my family was displaced so while the time does not have particularly good memories for me, these books were still amazing.

The "cover" prompt was harder to figure out a good book for, but I ended up going with Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I have heard a lot of hype for this book, so I am very excited to read this, but the cover is really cool looking. I found this at a used bookstore and was so excited that I would finally get a chance to read this. I really hope that it will live up to all of the expectations that I have heard, particularly on twitter. I am still really excited to read this and hope that it is a fantastic read. The cover is really neat as well, which makes it able to fill this challenge.
All in all, I hope that this readathon goes really good. I actually have a Christmas at my grandparents on Saturday and a few other things going on this week. I am posting this a little late, mostly because I forgot the start dates, but I can't wait to be able to get all of this stuff done. Are you participating in Grinchathon or another readathon over the holidays? What books are you looking forward to reading?

Unique Settings

Last week, I ran out of time to do my Top Ten Tuesday post, but I still loved the prompt of settings that I'd like to see more of. Since this week was a freebie, I decided to go ahead and do this prompt. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. The books I have read from these books have been absolutely amazing in the majority of circumstances, but there needs to be so much more, especially in traditional publishing for a wide range of audiences, though some of these are best suited to YA or NA. So, let's get started! 4H- I spent twelve years as a member of local 4H, and I have only read one book that ever had showing livestock at a county fair as a plotline. It was amazing, but I haven't seen this aspect of my life in any other book. I have a few ideas based on my experiences

August Six Degrees

I recently discovered the Six Degrees of Separation meme for book blogs, and it looks like a lot of fun, so I decided to start this month, and see how it goes! This month's prompt is a wild card. Since I didn't do this last month, I'm starting with the book that I'm currently in the middle of- The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. First Link: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan These books are both by the same author, but also they are both the books that got me into that specific type of mythology in the first place, both Greek and Egyptian. I've learned so much after becoming interested based on these books in the first place. Second Link: Pandora Gets Jealous by Carolyn Hennesy Both of these books are takes on Greek mythology. Percy Jackson is modern day, but Pandora is set back then. Still, the main characters are both awesome and their interactions with the Greek gods and other Greek mythical beings are just amazing. Third Link: The Frog Princess

Anticipated Releases

Welcome back to another week of Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by  That Artsy Reader Girl with prompts every week! This one was surprisingly hard for me, maybe because I'm not really in the middle of any great series right now and all of the authors I read a lot aren't releasing this fall. I did include multiple books that I already got from Netgalley but they have not yet come out and I am behind but I still want to read them because I'm excited about their potential and hope that they are as amazing as I wish. So let's get started! Of Ice and Shadows by Audrey Coulthurst- Mare and Denna are an amazing sapp hic couple. I loved Of Ice and Shadows, and I absolutely cannot wait to read the sequel, but I have to. I am really excited for this book. Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan- I got my sister the first book for Christmas and still haven't read it, but this is another amazing sapphic series that I need to read. My sister loved
