Bout of Books TBR

Bout of Books starts tomorrow so I figured that it was about time for me to make a tbr for it. In case you haven't heard of it before, here is how the bout of books team describes this readathon:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 24 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

It's always a fun and relaxing readathon, and it's my last week before classes start, so I figured that I should try to get as many books read for my 2019 goals and Netgalley before I start having homework, classes, and jobs taking up some of that time. My tbr is a little big this time around, but I do not expect to finish all of these books. I just want to read books that actually are on my tbr so I'm including a few more than I might have otherwise.

My audiobook for this readathon is The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. I've been listening to the PJO series in order since August and I've only listened to a chapter of this so far. I also have a long drive back to school on Wednesday so I definitely want something to listen to on the way there. Seriously though, I forgot how racist the audiobook is in some of the voices, but the rest of it is definitely enjoyable.

I have a ton of books on Netgalley right now, so here are some of the ones that I might end up reading during this readathon.

Ruby in the Sky by Jeanne Zulick Ferruolo is a middle grade fiction book about a girl named Ruby who moves to a new town and is determined to keep secrets about her past and remain silent and uninvolved, before she had to break out of the walls that she build herself. This seems like a really poignant piece and I'm looking forward to it.

Second in Command by Sandi Van is written entirely in verse and I absolutely love this format of book. It seems to have a family vs. the right thing to do idea, which is always really powerful and I'm hoping will be amazing when presented in verse like this.

Castle of Lies by Kiersi Burkhart has a bunch of backstabbing royals. I read the first chapter already and the court politics already are really well presented and got me excited to read this book. Also I think that's there is going to be lots of angst among the teens and I live for that.

The last book from Netgalley that I think I might end up getting to is The Red Labyrinth by Meredith Tate, that seems to have an interesting fantasy world with monsters that live in a maze just outside the city as the MC goes to rescue the best friend and I already want them to end up together just by reading the synopsis.

Now this moves me on to other books that I might end up reading.

I have the entire Princesses of Westfalin trilogy by Jessica Day George checked out from my local library right now, so I won't be able to bring them to school with me but I really hope to get through all three of them in time. I read them all about a year and a half ago and I really enjoyed them. Cute princesses and fairy tale retellings. What's not to love?

I read my first Adam Silvera book in 2018 and loved it (it's actually on my Top 2018 reads list coming out Friday) so I decided to read History is All You Left Me. I don't know very much about this one, but I am still excited for cute relationships and sadness that will probably end up making me cry.

Next is Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I love retellings of old stories, both fairy tales and classic works. I call the ones based on classic works authorized fanfiction but I absolutely love it. Peter Pan is one of the ones that often comes up, like in JM Sullivan's Second Star that I finished a few days ago, but I have heard about this one and am excited to see all of the references to the original work.

There should be a few more books on this list, but I still have no idea which books I am bringing to school so I don't know what else I'll have to read with me. If I end up reading any of those books, I'll definitely mention it on my wrap up though.

Anyway, this is my tbr for Bout of Books! What are you planning on reading? Which book are you most excited for? Be sure to let me know.

Thanks for reading!
Alyssa

August Six Degrees

I recently discovered the Six Degrees of Separation meme for book blogs, and it looks like a lot of fun, so I decided to start this month, and see how it goes! This month's prompt is a wild card. Since I didn't do this last month, I'm starting with the book that I'm currently in the middle of- The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. First Link: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan These books are both by the same author, but also they are both the books that got me into that specific type of mythology in the first place, both Greek and Egyptian. I've learned so much after becoming interested based on these books in the first place. Second Link: Pandora Gets Jealous by Carolyn Hennesy Both of these books are takes on Greek mythology. Percy Jackson is modern day, but Pandora is set back then. Still, the main characters are both awesome and their interactions with the Greek gods and other Greek mythical beings are just amazing. Third Link: The Frog Princess ...

Unique Settings

Last week, I ran out of time to do my Top Ten Tuesday post, but I still loved the prompt of settings that I'd like to see more of. Since this week was a freebie, I decided to go ahead and do this prompt. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. The books I have read from these books have been absolutely amazing in the majority of circumstances, but there needs to be so much more, especially in traditional publishing for a wide range of audiences, though some of these are best suited to YA or NA. So, let's get started! 4H- I spent twelve years as a member of local 4H, and I have only read one book that ever had showing livestock at a county fair as a plotline. It was amazing, but I haven't seen this aspect of my life in any other book. I have a few ideas based on my experiences...

Anticipated Releases

Welcome back to another week of Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by  That Artsy Reader Girl with prompts every week! This one was surprisingly hard for me, maybe because I'm not really in the middle of any great series right now and all of the authors I read a lot aren't releasing this fall. I did include multiple books that I already got from Netgalley but they have not yet come out and I am behind but I still want to read them because I'm excited about their potential and hope that they are as amazing as I wish. So let's get started! Of Ice and Shadows by Audrey Coulthurst- Mare and Denna are an amazing sapp hic couple. I loved Of Ice and Shadows, and I absolutely cannot wait to read the sequel, but I have to. I am really excited for this book. Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan- I got my sister the first book for Christmas and still haven't read it, but this is another amazing sapphic series that I need to read. My sister loved...
