Hi everyone! This begins the first in my new blogging series concerning Camp Nanowrimo in April
and starting a new first draft. I am already super excited with my own plans of what I'm writing and I hope that you will join in on all the fun.
In case you've never heard of Nanowrimo before, it stands for National Novel Writing Month and occurs in November of every year, where writers around the world attempt to write 50,000 words in only 30 days. You can check out more about Nanowrimo here.
It's not November now, but Camp Nanowrimo runs every April and July, where you set your own writing related project goal and use the month as an opportunity to get stuff done. You can check out the Camp Nano website here. Camp Nano especially is not just about starting a new draft; it is about getting writing-related work done, whether that be writing, revising, editing, or anything else. It is all up to you.
I found out about Nanowrimo in 2013 and participated in Camp Nanowrimo for the first time in 2014, because I was afraid of failing. I have since won Nanowrimo with over 50,000 2016-2018 and participated in some random camps along the way. Seriously, do not let anything limit you. If you want to write, then write. I won my first Nano with most of the project typed on my phone. People handwrite, use computers or typewriters or about anything else you could think of.
For this blog series, I'll be walking through a few ways to prepare for the month, for planners, pantsers and everything in between with a post every Saturday before we get to April, where I'll provide pep talks and some stories of my own experiences and how I managed to get through them. I participated in high school and now in college so I have had a few different experiences. Don't be afraid though! You should sign up because even if you don't win, it's always a lot of fun and definitely worth the time commitment.
Next week, we'll start with a post about Scheduling and Goals, aka how to plan your Camp Nano Time in April and setting realistic goals. Most of us are busy people and yet we still can accomplish our goals and dreams.
If you have anything in particular that you'd like me to cover, please let me know! I'm really excited about this.. I look forward to seeing how this month goes! Please share your writing experiences and journeys with me as we work over the next ten weeks and hopefully we'll get some great words done!
