Scallywag A Thon TBR

What's better than pirates? Space pirates. And what's better than space pirates? Clearly Scallywag A Thon, a pirate themed readathon that is based on space pirates this year.

I just found out about it last week, but Scallywag A Thon starts tomorrow and runs May 5-12. There are multiple paths to take along the map to find where X marks the treasure. In order to make it to the X, there are at least four challenges to complete. You can check out the map here if you are interested in joining me in this quest!

This was my first readathon making a bullet journal spread for. I'm actually considering making a post about my starting to bullet journal, but I thought it was fun to create a spread for this readathon, despite my lackluster artistic abilities.

Fair warning, I do have problems sticking to a TBR, so this is likely to not end up being what I actually read during the readathon. I definitely have mood reading tendencies.

For my starting point, I chose the number two, Extraterrestrial, challenge, which is a book from a genre you don't normally read. For this challenge, I went with Anyone but the Earl by Irene Davis. It's a historical romance and that typically isn't what I choose to read, but I still do occasionally. Typically I stick to fantasy or contemporary though, so this book definitely fits the bill for this challenge. I actually got a physical ARC for this book, which is my first which makes me especially excited to be able to check out.

From there, I decided to move on to the number seven challenge, which was Blow Down the Man. That challenge is to read a book by a female author. I'm reading Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan. I love the first book, Reign of Shadows, and can't wait to read the sequel, even though I am slightly nervous that it won't meet my expectations. But that is the problem with reading!

Then I choose to move onto the detour B, Angle of Attack. This challenge is a book about a problem facing society today. I plan on reading The Transmigration of Bodies by Yuri Herrera, which is about contemporary issues in Mexico. I only read half of it for a school project but I want to finish definitely.

My last challenge to reach the X is number ten, which is Assessing the Booty, or a recently hauled book. I haven't actually had a multibook haul since like January because college is complicated, but I did pick up a discount book from Books a Million in April, so that's what I plan on reading. That book is Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum, which I'm excited to read.

And that's my TBR for Scallywag A Thon! Are you participating? Be sure to let me know what you're planning on reading in the comments! Remember, it's not too late to decide to participate!

Thanks for reading!
Alyssa

  1. This is the first I've heard of it! Thanks for sharing. I don't know if I could find three books with space pirates, though...unless they were all Trek books, I guess. :p

Unique Settings

Last week, I ran out of time to do my Top Ten Tuesday post, but I still loved the prompt of settings that I'd like to see more of. Since this week was a freebie, I decided to go ahead and do this prompt. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. The books I have read from these books have been absolutely amazing in the majority of circumstances, but there needs to be so much more, especially in traditional publishing for a wide range of audiences, though some of these are best suited to YA or NA. So, let's get started! 4H- I spent twelve years as a member of local 4H, and I have only read one book that ever had showing livestock at a county fair as a plotline. It was amazing, but I haven't seen this aspect of my life in any other book. I have a few ideas based on my experiences

August Six Degrees

I recently discovered the Six Degrees of Separation meme for book blogs, and it looks like a lot of fun, so I decided to start this month, and see how it goes! This month's prompt is a wild card. Since I didn't do this last month, I'm starting with the book that I'm currently in the middle of- The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. First Link: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan These books are both by the same author, but also they are both the books that got me into that specific type of mythology in the first place, both Greek and Egyptian. I've learned so much after becoming interested based on these books in the first place. Second Link: Pandora Gets Jealous by Carolyn Hennesy Both of these books are takes on Greek mythology. Percy Jackson is modern day, but Pandora is set back then. Still, the main characters are both awesome and their interactions with the Greek gods and other Greek mythical beings are just amazing. Third Link: The Frog Princess

Awesome Books out of my Comfort Zone

Welcome back for another week of Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Fair warning: I'm back at school and this semester is already kicking my butt, so I have no idea how frequent posts will be, especially in Top Ten Tuesday, or how long they'll be. I love my new major but it's definitely more front heavy than I'm used to. This week's prompt features books I enjoyed out that were out of my comfort zone. I typically stick to lighter reads, particularly contemparies and romances, though I enjoy faster paced science fiction and fantasy as well. I also am a complete wimp in my reading and the rest of my life as well. So let's get started! Two Can Keep A Secret by Karen McManus- This book was absolutely amazing and the ending sent shivers down my
